On the course Dutch 2 students will work through chapters 7through 12 of the Dutch language course book “Contact : Nederlands voor anderstaligen”. Topics during the spring semester （units: 10-12）include: the home, houses and buildings, the neighborhood, rooms and living spaces, furniture and appliances, making complaints, writing a formal letter, experiencing life in the Netherlands, expressing opinions, the news and media, , the weather and climates, famous Dutch people, school and university, the Dutch education system, at work, professions, a typical day at work, internship and work experience.

Great emphasis is put on building up practical communication skills, by means of listening and speaking activities. Each chapter in the book is divided into three thematic sections, each of which introduce the learner to new linguistic skills, which recur for further exploration as the learner progresses. Each chapter also introduces various cultural aspects of Dutch society and typical Dutch festivals. All students are expected to give an oral presentation on two cultural topics of their choice.
